Crafting Connection: How Artist Greg Stice Brings Cherokee Tradition to Life

Meet the Artist: Greg Stice

Greg Stice Cherokee Artist

Greg Stice has spent much of his life helping others. Whether it was supporting people in starting businesses or reaching their goals, Greg has always been there. He is a caring father, a loving partner, and a great friend. Alongside his wife Lisa, Greg stayed busy helping others and enjoying life as it flew by.

But one day, Greg realized he wasn’t spending enough time on what truly mattered to him. He had two big goals:

  1. To spend more time with family and friends.
  2. To create beautiful things with his own hands.

Greg was working long hours and coming home late, missing out on family time and the joy of creating. Thankfully, he realized this in time to make a change. He decided to focus on what really made him happy – his family and his passion for making art.

Greg grew up on his grandparents’ farm in Etowah, Oklahoma. As a kid, he learned how to fix things, bake, sew, create with his hands, and even build a house. These skills shaped him into the talented artist he is today. Over time, Greg became known for his simple yet elegant jewelry designs inspired by Cherokee culture and nature.

When Greg and Lisa decided they didn’t want to miss out on family moments or their creative passions, they took a leap of faith. Lisa left graduate school, and together they started Cherokee Copper. This family business became a way for Greg to connect with his heritage and his loved ones while doing what he loves.

Greg is a self-taught artist who has worked hard to improve his skills. He uses natural materials like freshwater pearls, gemstones, copper, and deerhide to make unique, timeless jewelry. His work is rooted in Cherokee traditions and the stories of the Cherokee people.

Greg also gives back to his community by mentoring other artists and teaching the next generation of coppersmiths. Keeping the art of coppersmithing alive and passing it down to the next generation has become a passion project for Greg. For him, preserving this traditional artform means more than all the awards and accolades he has received. Knowing that he is safeguarding and sharing a vital part of Cherokee culture gives him immense pride and fulfillment.

For Greg, Cherokee Copper is more than just a business. It’s a way to share Cherokee culture with the world, support his family, and bring people together. Through his work, Greg is keeping Cherokee traditions alive and sharing their story with the world.
